E-commerce is becoming an ever more increasingly important means of selling for today’s businesses due to its flexibility, broad reach and the fact that an online store is open 24 hours a day all year round. Even the most traditional companies are exploiting the internet to increase sales and are launching e-commerce enabled websites.
What is e-commerce? E-commerce is simply the term for electronic commerce, generally referring to the selling of products and services over the internet. These e-commerce transactions may fall into two categories; firstly, the B2B, or business to business, and secondly, the B2C, or business to customer transactions.
A typical e-commerce transaction may begin with the buyer viewing an online catalogue and placing an order for an item or service and providing a credit card and shipping information. Then the vendor would verify the credit card information, process the order and schedule the shipping of the item to the buyer.
